Cork University Hospital (CUH) is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated vascular physiologist/scientist to join our hard-working and friendly team. As part of a talented multidisciplinary unit, we are expanding our team to meet the growing demands of our service providing excellent patient care. CUH Wilton is the largest statutory / HSE public hospital in Ireland and the only Model 4 (Specialist Academic Teaching) Hospital in the state with all acute surgical and medical specialities integrated on the same campus. CUH Wilton is a regional centre for secondary and tertiary care for the catchment area of HSE South, and also provides a number of supra-regional services in a range of specialities to the entire southern one third of Ireland. At a national level CUH Wilton is one of two designated Level 1 trauma centres in the country.

Our small but hard-working team currently comprises of a Chief Vascular Physiologist/Scientist and 1 administrator.
The Vascular Laboratory consists of an office and 2 spacious air-conditioned scanning rooms with 2 GE ultrasound machines (Logiq e10) and a Philips Epiq machine. We perform a full range of vascular investigations including extracranial vessels, aorto-iliacs, lower limb and upper limb arterial/venous, bypass graft surveillance, fistula assessments plus more. A variety of complex and interesting inpatient and outpatient cases are regularly referred to the laboratory offering a great opportunity to advance your skills. We work closely with a great team of vascular specialists (3 vascular surgeon consultants, vascular registrars, nurse specialists and junior doctors), participate in MDTs and provide an outpatient one-stop clinic service for the Department of Vascular Surgery.
We are looking for an experienced vascular physiologist/scientist to undertake examinations in line with patient referrals adhering to departmental guidelines. The successful applicant will be able to carry out and interpret all non-invasive vascular investigations and be able to work both independently and as part of a team whilst demonstrating high levels of competency. Excellent communication skills, outstanding interpersonal skills together with a caring and professional attitude are essential. The successful applicant will participate in training and supervising junior members of staff and students; help in the day to day running of the department, triaging and vetting referrals; will participate in research and audit activities within and outside the department; will be supported with their continued professional development and will be encouraged to attend/participate in national and international scientific meetings with the aim to advance vascular science and uphold the overall stature/reputation of the vascular laboratory.
Requirements: Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for application must:
Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Dublin Institute of Technology OR Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Technological University Dublin (TUD) OR Possess an equivalent relevant scientific qualification (Level 8) as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Science (IICMP) OR (a) Possess the Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) from Dublin Institute of Technology OR (b) An equivalent scientific qualification as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Science awarded in or before 2005.
All candidates must have a minimum of 3 years fulltime (or an aggregate of 3 years fulltime) relevant post qualification experience. AND (b) Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
Desirable:
Fully accredited vascular scientist (AVS) with the Society for Vascular Technology of GB & Ireland (SVT) and/or a relevant post-graduation qualification such as a PGCert, PGDip, MSc or equivalent.
Those with fewer years of experience are welcome to apply for consideration as a Basic Grade/Trainee post. County Cork is the biggest county in Ireland and is part of both the Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland’s Ancient East, with over 1000km of coastline.
