Vascular Scientist / Sonographer

Closing Date
28 Mar 2023
Salary
£41,659 - £47,673
Address
Wrexham Maelor Hospital, Wrexham
Duration
Permanent

We are seeking applications from enthusiastic and committed individuals to become a member of the Vascular Laboratory Team in the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, North Wales. This post will be based in Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

BCUHB recently implemented a new vascular service model by means of a modern Vascular Network. Complex vascular surgery has been centralised to the Glan Clwyd site where there is a hybrid theatre. Outpatient consultations, investigations, diagnostic procedures, renal dialysis access surgery, varicose vein treatments and day case surgeries continue to be delivered at all three main DGH’s in North Wales (Wrexham Maelor Hospital, Glan Clwyd Hospital and Ysbyty Gwynedd).

The Vascular Laboratory service consists of four rooms across the three DGH’s, with three Philips Epiq machines and one Canon Aplio i700 machine. Our workload includes carotid and vertebral artery duplex, upper and lower limb arterial and venous duplex, pre and post dialysis fistula assessment, pre-operative marking, temporal artery scans, AAA surveillance, graft surveillance, EVAR follow-up, and ankle-brachial pressure measurements.

The vascular scientist/sonographer must be independently responsible for carrying out and reporting on specialised examinations to a high standard and in a professional manner, working to departmental guidelines whilst being accountable for their own actions. Excellent clinical skills, experience, and full accreditation (AVS) with the Society for Vascular Technology of Great Britain and Ireland, or equivalent, are essential. Professional registration (such as HCPC registration or AVS accreditation) is also essential, although applications from students nearing the end of their training or professionals eligible for AHCS equivalence are encouraged.

The post holder will undertake a clinical role in their base site and on other sites within BCUHB.

There is a requirement to fulfil these duties both in and out of core hours.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
